At the City, the practice of law is focused on protecting and advancing the interests of the City to make life better for the citizens as a whole. Another factor is work/life balance. Although we work hard in the Law Branch, the demands on our time are not as onerous as they are in private practice."

"A file I was recently involved in concerned City Council's decision to allow a corporation wholly owned by the City, to transfer its power-generation assets to a publicly traded company. This was a $5 billion transaction that was done to ensure that the dividends the company pays to the City would be sustainable. Two lawsuits were commenced to try to stop this transaction. Both suits were subject to intense media scrutiny. I took considerable pride in successfully defending these lawsuits in court and ensuring that the City and the company could proceed as planned."
—Mark Young, Head of Litigation, Law
